Université catholique de Louvain-Louvain Drug Research Institute, pharmacognosy group (UCL-LDRI)

Prof. JoelleQuetin-Leclercq

The laboratory of Pharmacognosy from UCL has developed an expertise on the evaluation of the activities and the identification of biologically active natural compounds from plants used in traditional medicine, with a particular focus on anticancer, antiparasitic, antimicrobial, antihypertensive, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and anti-Alzheimer properties. Isolated compounds belong to the three main groups of secondary metabolites: terpenes, polyphenols and alkaloids and structures were elucidated by analysis of HR MS and RMN data. The laboratory of UCL also developed analytical methods for the rapid identification of natural compounds by chromatography coupled with mass spectrometryas well as validated methods for quantification of these molecules in plants or crude extracts for treatments and extracts standardization. Among the staff of the GNOS group, Dr MF Herent (post-doc) could help for LC-MS analysis within the MASMET platform, M-C. Fayt, and M. Bourlet (technicians) could provide technical support.

Available equipment allows preparation of crude extracts, analytical scale as well as preparative scale chromatographies including prep-DAD-HPLC, GC-MS and UPLC-DAD-HRMS.
